I got this for my niece who's obsessed with Norse mythology, and the prose retelling makes the Finnish epic surprisingly easy to follow. The dragon scenes are genuinely dramatic, and the book feels substantial enough to be a keepsake.
The illustrations alone are worth the price—every page turn brings a new dragon or hero that feels ripped straight from a dream. I bought it as a gift but ended up reading the whole prose retelling myself before wrapping it.
I’m halfway through and already the dragons and eagles feel alive—the illustrations on every page pull you right into the myths. It’s a gorgeous way to finally dig into Finland’s national saga, and the prose keeps it moving like a story rather than a textbook.
