I was nervous this YA novel would feel too sanitized, but the tension between fitting in and being true to yourself is so raw it actually made my chest tighten. Chloe’s crush from middle school feels like such a real, embarrassing thing.
The way the author captures that heady mix of excitement and anxiety before prom feels so real. I kept flipping pages to see if her crush would actually ask her.
The way Chloe’s friendship dynamics are written felt so genuine I had to stop and think about my own friends. I flew through the prom scenes and college acceptance drama in one sitting, completely absorbed.
