Bought this for my classroom and the way it frames Hudson's struggle with words through his art really clicked with the kids who get frustrated with reading. The mix of illustrations and short text kept even my most reluctant reader engaged until the last page.
My son struggles with reading exactly like the kid in this story, and seeing those word-packed pages visually shrink as his confidence grows was powerful for both of us. The way it weaves in the drawing talent as a strength makes it feel hopeful instead of sad.
