THURBER, James. The 13 Clocks. Illustrated by Mark [sic] Simont. NY: Simon & Schuster [1950]. 8vo, 124pp. Red cloth spine stamped in black with blue textured cloth covers pictorially stamped in black. Color pictorial endpapers; color illustrations throughout. Spine ends and lower edge lightly rubbed, a few light stains to rear endpapers (probably from something having been placed between them), else a fine copy in original color pictorial dust jacket (slight creasing at spine ends and corners). Inscribed by the author, James Thurber, and with a bookplate signed by the artist, Marc Simont, laid in!

First edition. Thurber’s sublimely whimsical fairy tale of love forestalled has delighted generations of readers, and Marc Simont’s enchanting full-color illustrations truly elevate this book to the classic status that it deserves.

Miles A. ★★★★★

The blue textured cloth covers with the pictorial stamping are even more striking in person, and Marc Simont's illustrations inside are crisp and charming. This copy arrived in far better shape than I expected for a book from 1950, and the pages are clean with no musty smell at all.

Hazel Z. ★★★★★

The red cloth spine with black stamping looks fantastic on the shelf, and the pictorial stamping on the covers really gives it that vintage 1950s charm. This copy arrived in solid shape for its age, pages clean and binding tight, a nice find for any Thurber collector.

Andrew T. ★★★★★

The blue textured cloth covers with the pictorial stamping are even more charming in person, and Marc Simont’s illustrations inside are crisp and delightful. The binding feels sturdy for a 1950 first edition, which is exactly what I hoped for in a signed copy.
