NY: Simon & Schuster [1950]. 8vo, 124pp. Rode linnen rug met zwartopdruk, blauw getextureerde linnen banden met zwarte picturale opdruk. Kleurrijke picturale schutbladen; doorlopend kleurenillustraties. Ruguiteinden en onderrand lichtjes gewreven, enkele lichte vlekken op de achterste schutbladen (waarschijnlijk door iets dat ertussen heeft gezeten), verder een fraai exemplaar in originele kleurrijke stofomslag (lichte kreukels aan ruguiteinden en hoeken). Gesigneerd door de auteur, James Thurber, en met een ex-libris gesigneerd door de kunstenaar, Marc Simont, ingelegd!

 

Eerste druk. Thurbers subliem grillige sprookje over een vertraagde liefde heeft generaties lezers verrukt, en Marc Simonts betoverende fullcolour illustraties tillen dit boek werkelijk naar de klassieke status die het verdient.

The blue textured cloth covers with the pictorial stamping are even more striking in person, and Marc Simont's illustrations inside are crisp and charming. This copy arrived in far better shape than I expected for a book from 1950, and the pages are clean with no musty smell at all.

The red cloth spine with black stamping looks fantastic on the shelf, and the pictorial stamping on the covers really gives it that vintage 1950s charm. This copy arrived in solid shape for its age, pages clean and binding tight, a nice find for any Thurber collector.
